Fighting Bald Eagles Wildlife Photography

Sunday was a amazing day for Bald Eagles!

My post Young Bald Eagle was the first sighting of this happening.

After the show was over Guy and I discussed what we saw!

The only thing we can determine (since we are not bird of prey specialists), is the the adult Bald Eagles were running off their young??

Or these young Bald Eagles were moving into the adult Bald Eagles territory??

It was a show of diving bombing, and very fast get a ways. Lake Billy Chinook is pretty much deserted at this time of the year but for a couple people.

We seen this show going on above the lake, then hopped in the truck and went up to the flats. Then they went back down to the lake and we did not finish the show!

I got all three in a shot but not worth showing.

I bet we could have been going back and forth for hours!! I do not jump out of this truck as well as I did the chevy HAHA!

As some may know our chevy finally gave up the ghost and we had to go buy another truck. We all loved the suburban (we called the the Steven King truck for windows would go up and down on their own and other such things HAHA), but we have to roll with the flow!

Hawk Landing Oregon Wildlife Photography

Hawk Landing Oregon Wildlife Photography

This is one of two Red Tailed Hawks (Chicken Hawk and known as other kinds of Hawks depending on where you live), that was following me Sunday down in the canyon where the Metolius River feeds into the canyon.

This one is young, does not have the red feathers yet, and/or I have never seen two species of hawks flying, perching together before. I am no bird of prey expert just my observations.

They were flying tree to tree keeping a very close eye on me! More then likely hoping I was going to scare up some dinner for them?

They stopped following me when the Bald Eagle I had my eye on took off flying to the other side of the canyon.

On another note, I do have some of my photographs at the gallery there in Madras Oregon as of today. More of this to come.

Young Bald Eagle

Sunday was the day we decided to go outside. Saturday it was storming and just to nasty!!

We got to see the neatest show we have yet to top down at the canyon.

We seen 6 Bald Eagles. I got shots of 5 of these 6. This is a immature Bald Eagle.

Not being a expert on eagles, I had to find a way to tell the difference between the Golden and Bald Eagle and I think I have finally found a way?

Knowing the Eagles are in our area and I seem to be getting a lot of photographs of them I am now going by the beak. Golden eagles do not have the golden beak.

Thus we take this information and apply it to this Eagle. That and we seen a show of two mature Bald Eagles who appear to be running off a young Bald Eagle and this is for another post. This young Bald Eagle was found near that show. Though this one was not being attacked as the other young Bald Eagle was.

I Am Central Oregon Sunset

mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon

I Am Central Oregon Sunset

This is from a local writer who just happens to still be in high school.

He has been writing now for years and just this year has gotten the confidence to go public.

This is his poem, with my central Oregon sunset photograph.

I Am

I am a writer

I wonder if my story will be published

I see so many good books

I am a writer

I feel happy when I write

I touch peoples hearts when they read what I write

I worry that I am not very good

I cry when I write people dying in my story

I am a writer

I understand that I must improve my writing

I say that I don't care what people think

I'm a good writer

I dream of seeing my books in stores

I try so hard to make my stories good and also touch peoples lives

I hope that I will someday see my stories on the big screen

I am a writer

The Family Man Mule Deer Buck

I liked this buck for he was acting as if just another family man.

Being goofy in one photo, and being a proud papa in another.

He towered over the young ones, one of the photographs show this.

Not the biggest buck I have captured with the camera, just another one who had a lot of character!

Quick little things!!

They seam to be very acquisitive as to what we were doing too!

I read where these birds survive our cold, however yesterday it got up to 68 degrees!!

Malheur National Forest Oregon mrsroadrunner.com

mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon

Malheur National Forest Oregon

We were up in the Malheur National Forest last Saturday and got a couple photographs.

Guy had planned to go to a spot for photographs where we would hike around.

This was the first trip in our dodge ram we just picked up. Our chevy suburban is no longer and we like the Ram truck, but we really loved the suburban and of course it was paid off.

WOW did things not go as planned!

We slide off the road. I do not mean we drove down into the snow because it looked fun, I mean we slide off the road!! We darn near went side ways and my way! It must of been a funny site if anyone was up in the Mauleur forest to see it!

Unfortunately we were the only ones up there or at least we never saw anyone, not even smoke from a fire. It really was not to bad. The state had just went over with a grader, the grader was sitting not to far off. Guy immediately went to the grader to see if there was anything we could use to get the truck out of the snow.

Not much was there of course, but a shovel was!

As Guy was doing all this the dogs and I got out of the truck and made use of our time. There has never been a time where Guy and I could not figure our way out of whatever situation we happened to get ourselves in, so worrying at this stage was futile.

I found out real quick the s now was deep! The road itself was not paved but just a dirt road, but a sheet of ice. I am sure the grader that must of been going over the roads was no help with the ice?

I took a couple photographs while the dogs and I were out and about staying close to the truck. Most of the time even though I am not supposed to drive, I was behind the wheel. I have been driving five gear trucks, tractors, front end loaders and such for a very long time and no what I am doing. My health just dictates I am not out on the roads with you. Does not mean I have never driven anything before.

As Guy was using the borroed shovel, I was putting it in reverse, then first, back and forth we went. After a hour, as time was ticking by we were still not real panicked. Though really I can only speak for myself. It has only been a hour. Guy went back to the grader to see if there is anything else we could use to get us out of this mess. I should have taken photographs of the truck and such, but under the circumstances this was not top priority.

Guy went into the deep snow, got limbs and such to see if that would help get traction, well it did not help. Guy also did not even wear his winter boots!! Of course I told him what I thought about this! The limbs just shot out from the tires. Guy went back to the grader to see if there was anything that could help us! A tow chain was found, but no use.

Back and forth I went again behind the wheel, shifting gears and trying not to pop the clutch! The truck which I have never driven and wont when it comes to open roads, was very easy to get into gear! Though mind you the trucks and such I have driven were the types that.... were not exactly so easy to get into gear. These pick up trucks of course do not have brownies (or this is what I have been taught what the button is to put it into more gears and wow was it a joke when I was being taught to drive that bigger truck with the browny!! The browny was set up backwards too!), so no need to worry about that. I did put it in 4 wheel high, 4 wheel low, than I thought well there is 2 wheel high and low. So I went through all these. Finally the truck moved!!

I was trying to keep the wheel in my grasp, and amazingly even to myself my hands did not loose grip! Even through my braise, so this in itself I was happy about! I remember one truck had this ball thingy welded or some how attached to it to make t urning easier, another farm I worked on. I let up on the gas seeing that if the truck shot forwards I could go off the other side of the road!

The dodge ram did very well! It felt as if some very big person was pushing from behind! It really did! I like this truck!! I looked in the side mirror as Guy was at the grader and walking back to the truck. First thing of course he did was come to the drivers side and ask how on earth did I do that? Heck I do not know! I am a persistent little turd (I cleaned up the language haha), or so I have been told!

Guy gathered up what we used from the grader into the back of the truck bed. Took over the wheel, and we backed up to the grader. Guy put everything away where he found it at the grader and kept backing out onto the so called "main" road.

Than is when we noticed the grader had one wheel up off the road and we should have noticed that as we passed it.

By the time, and the gas we wasted we scratched the idea we first had. It was time to make our way home. We do not want to get stranded in the snow after dark!

The photographs I do have to show are of the creek that me and the dogs went to, one of the English Mastiffs making his way out of the snow. This is our Poncho, you know the Cisco kid and his side kick Poncho HAHA!

I added a photograph of the view to the right of where we were stuck at. The snow looks pretty when one is not cold and wet !

I have one more post that I wanted to get done this week as well as this one, but a migraine got in the way..... If all goes well, we will be heading into the canyon in the morning. Since the road is closed where I like to go and if I am up for the hike we might just hike in. Oh it is only a couple miles in.......but we will just have to see how the morning goes.

Horse In The Summer Time

Horse In The Summer Time

I was doing something rather today when I ran upon some photographs I have not shown yet.

I do have many of these photographs that have not had a write up about them, so I was in the mood to do this tonight.

This was back in June and one of these photographs already has been on the market and in some peoples homes already. Not sure why I never did a write up of this series?

I got my mare when she was a yearling. Really to keep my gelding company, however she is such a hoot and the camera loves her!

Plus we need something to take our mind off the weather outside...

Wild Trumpeter Swan mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon

Wild Trumpeter Swan

As we were following the Crooked River here in Central Oregon when we ran across this pair of swans.

For some people seeing swans is nothing more than walking to your nearest park, but for us we do not have such things.

We see them in the wild or nothing at all. I think the nearest park for swans would be in Bend Oregon? Bend is a drive for us!

In one of the photographs the one swan is telling off the ducks and geese that the swans were getting to close too.

They were all alone and fairly close to where I was until they seen me, than they swam away rather quickly.

I pulled my lens back and caught a photograph of the whole show of ducks, geese and the swans in one shot.

This part of the Crooked River must be part of a cattle ranch (?), for in places there are fences and such that are placed in the river itself to keep the livestock in.

Oh and the nearest town is Post Oregon.

Oregon Common Merganser or Gooseander

These birds were funny for as soon as they seen me paying attention to them they took of flying!

We were not sure what these birds were and had to do some research.

These were on the Crooked River here in Central Oregon. Nearest town was Post Oregon.

Pair of Bald Eagles Waiting Their Turn in Central Oregon

Pair of Bald Eagles Waiting Their Turn in Central Oregon
Our adventures start out usually early in the morning.
I woke up late, yes I admit! I got up gosh at 4 am or something. Guy was already up and drinking his coffee. I only have to get myself and my camera ready. Guy has the truck, the dogs, our lunch and extra truck supplies to get ready.
We left here a little before 5am, before the sun came up and hopefully before to much wildlife movement gets started.

The plan was to head to the Malheur National Forest. This drive is always a good one. We head to Madras for gas, munchies. Head to Prineville, to Post, drive on the public roads through large ranches, (historical Izee ranch than and the Az which that one we are not sure if the road actually goes through that one?), than we hit the Malheur forest (getting the truck we just got, stuck in a 3' snow drift will be a story for another time). The only reason we go to the forest first off is, the dogs have to get out and go to the bathroom. This drive is really all private property, thus we have to be careful of going onto private land. Everyone needs permission from the land owners to go onto their property but the forest believe to us all.
We came upon An unkindness of ravens and the ravens are something we are always on the look out for. Why? Because ravens have this reputation of being very good scavengers and these groups of ravens will fight off even eagles to win the prize! Ravens are very smart, humans are not something they have learned to like and when they flew off and I noticed a deer carcass.
Knowing that eagles and other birds of prey are scavengers as well, it only takes one to look around to find other species of birds who are looking for a way to win their dinners too. This instance was no difference. Off in the distance was a pair of Bald Eagles waiting for their chance. Or who knows maybe they already ate and were full??
This is the first set of photographs. In the one photograph another bird joined the bald eagles in the tree. Than, because Post Oregon is cattle and farming country, a heifer walked through some of the photographs. The pair of eagles did realize this but in the photograph shown something else got their attention. Than I added the male Bald Eagle who was watching the ravens and has his head cocked.

Campfire On The Trail

mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon

Campfire On The Trail

When I take photographs I take them for me first. I went really public with my photographs a little while ago on this computer, some of you have even been with me through this process. With all the stuff I heard about computers and all.... I just kept them off the computer. Now with over 92,000 visitors to my site I think I have hopefully given people a little entertainment sharing our life over here in Oregon?

I am enjoying showing and selling my photography to the world on the computer! I am even doing photograph calls now.

When I check my email and a call for photographs come in, I think first, "do I have something that matches what they are looking for"?

Than I have to think, what is their criteria?

I refresh my memory of the critira by either going to the site in question, or just carefully reading over the email.

I type in search names into my database of photographs I have taken. Look over the photographs that come up.

Pick and choose which photographs meet the critiria.

Sometimes photographs are chosen, sometimes not by whomever. This is just the way it is. It is nothing personal, and not meant to be taken personal and I do not take such things personal.

In the February edition of Seattle Backpackers Magazine see some of my campfire shots I took! In fact if you like backpacking the northwest, Seattle or down here in Oregon, check out signing up for their publication in your email! I found them awhile back, really not sure how but they have some good articles!!

If you have a publication, and have calls for photographs email me! Never know we might be able to work with each other?

I am stocking my store as time permits. Different sizes of photographs are available, some are dated and autographed. Go on over and check that out!

I also have advertisers now. The page of all the advertisers I have to date is here . All nature, outdoor related items. Looking for something check it out.

Thank you!
